Meet one of our Experienced Optometrists Today
Dr. Blaine is originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba but moved to Calgary in 1976. After completing his degree at the University of Waterloo in 1989, he returned to South Calgary to practice optometry. In 1991, he purchased the Claresholm office and continues to enjoy supporting the citizens and businesses of that community. In 2006, Dr. Blaine opened Bridlewood Eye Care. He greatly appreciates the ongoing support from both former and new patients in the South Calgary area. A long time resident of the Evergreen area, Dr. Blaine and Bridlewood Eye Care are active in supporting local business and sports including Shawmeadows hockey Association where he coached minor hockey. He also traveled with Canadian Vision Care to Jamaica where groups of doctors provide vision care and glasses to Jamaicans who cannot otherwise afford them. In his spare time he spends time with his four children, plays hockey, cycles, participates in triathlons and occasionally gets to relax and take in a good movie with his wife, Lesley.
Dr. Garg attended the University of Calgary for three years, where she worked in health sciences and conducted research on myopia (near-sightedness). In 2002, she had the opportunity to present her research at the ARVO conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This experience perked her interest in visual science and, following her desire to become involved in health care, Dr. Garg pursued a degree in Optometry.
She attended the University of Waterloo and graduated in 2007 with honours. During her training, she completed a four month pathology and therapeutic internship at a veterans hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She also participated in an eye care mission, teaming with other doctors to provide eye care and glasses to the less fortunate in Chile and Peru.
After graduating, Dr. Garg decided to return to her hometown of Calgary and join practice with Dr. David Blaine. She enjoys the challenges of private practice and expanding her patient base in this growing community. In her spare time, she likes to play basketball and volleyball, go hiking in the mountains, and travel world-wide.
Dr. Stuart Schroeder grew up on a farm outside the small town of Beaverlodge in Northern Alberta. He then went on to attend the University of Alberta before graduating from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science on the Dean’s Honor List. During his training he completed several externships including one at OMNI Eye Specialists in Baltimore, specializing in ocular disease and therapeutics.
This, in addition to several other rotations, provided him with ample experience in the diagnosing and management of various anterior segment diseases, glaucoma, retinal disease, as well as the pre-and post-operative care of cataract surgery. Outside of the office, you can often catch him playing or watching a good ball game, skiing or hiking in the mountains, traveling, or enjoying some quality time at home with family and friends. Dr. Schroeder is always welcoming new patients and looks forward to providing high-quality eye care to the residents in and around Calgary for many years to come.
Dr. Shaun Medway was born and raised in Brooks, Alberta. He attended both the University of Lethbridge and the University of Alberta, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Honours Biochemistry. He then went on to attend the University of Waterloo School of Optometry, graduating on the Dean’s Honour List in 2018. As part of his clinical training in Waterloo, Dr. Medway completed several externships in Canada and the United States, including an ocular disease and therapeutics externship at a Veterans Affairs Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He also had the opportunity to participate in an optometric mission trip to Ecuador, providing eye exams and glasses to those in need. In his spare time, you can find Dr. Medway on the golf course or in the mountains, where he enjoys camping and snowboarding. He also enjoys playing hockey and is an avid Calgary Flames fan. Dr. Medway is excited to join the team at Bridlewood Eye Care and is looking forward to providing exceptional eye care to the people of Calgary!
